Apache Web Server

Our Servers A, B, C, and M are all equipped with Apache 1.3.x Web Server, the most popular and powerful web server software available today.


Enhancements
Blue Reef's Apache has been modified to extend its flexibility and power. Performance advancements include:

  • more efficient handling of HTTP requests,
  • improved protection against process loading,
  • and better error recovery.

    These improvements have reduced CPU load balances up to three times on many of the Virtual Server host machines. Of course, that directly translates to even faster downloads and better performance from you web site!


    Special Features of our Apache
    In addition to complete access to your own configuration files, cgi-bin, and logfiles, your Virtual Server includes:
      Virtual Subhosting
      This feature allows you to support multiple domain names that each resolve to their own unique subdirectories on a single Virtual Server. In other words, you can host "thing-a-ma-bobs.com" and "myfavoritegoodies.com" on the same Virtual Server, each with its own domain name and unique site content.

      Dynamic Module Support
      This provides you with the ability to extend the features and capabilities of Apache by adding the specific modules you need, when you need them. User-installable dynamic modules include improved web server functionality, integrated support for Perl5 and PHP3, and much, much more. The APXS (APache eXtenSion) tool is also supported. APXS allows you to compile and link your own dynamic shared object (DSO) modules.

      User-Installable Digital Certificates
      You can install your digital certificate for your secure web server (SSL).
    No other hosting service even approaches this level of flexibility and functionality.
