Obtaining Thawte Digital Certificates

Blue Reef can obtain a Thawte certificate for you on your behalf. We will charge you the same prices as Thawte, but cut some of the work for you. We simply need the proper authorizing documentation from you. Once you have gathered all the proper documentation, fax it to Blue Reef at 305-274-9593. You can then place your order on our Order Web Site and Blue Reef will take care of everything else for you.

Authorizing Documentation
To prevent impostors from fraudulently receiving certificates by pretending to be firms they are not,Thawte will not issue a certificate unless you can prove you have the right to use a given name. To receive an organizational certificate, you need to be a recognized business or nonprofit entity in your area, and have the documentation to prove it.

The documentation needs to be on a letterhead, needs to be official, and needs to be independently verifiable. For example, we need to be able to call the company registrar in your country to check that your are in fact registered such a name.

Acceptable Documentation
Thawte will accept the following documentation from the following entities:

Companies, corporations, partnerships or proprietorships. We will need a copy of your company registration documents. We will also accept a copy of your articles of incorporation or partnership declaration if the relevant authority stamps it.
DBA's, Sole Proprietors, and Individuals. If you are a DBA ("Doing Business As"), we will need a copy of your DBA registration papers for local levies and taxes. Any official correspondence indicating your right to use the name given on your request will generally be sufficient.
Government Departments. We require an original signed letter from the Head of your department on the appropriate letterhead, along with contact information for both the office and your immediate superiors.
NGO's: Non-Government Organizations. We require an original signed letter from the Chief Executive, Chairman or Managing Director of the NGO, on the appropriate letterhead.
Universities and University Departments. We will require an original signed letter from the Dean or Vice-Chancellor responsible for your department. This must be on the appropriate letterhead, accompanied by contact information for the University concerned.
Special Interest Groups. Special-interest groups are popping up all over the Internet: The Apache Group, Debian, Linux Groups and others. We will issue such groups with certificates but request that you contact us to discuss verification and authentication.

To verify your right to use the domain name we are certifying, we will also need the following information about your domain registration if the primary domain name for your server does not end in .com, . gov, .net, .edu,. or .se:

Which authority you registered through.
The name and contact information you gave as an administrative contact.
The name and contact information you gave as a technical contact.

Once you have gathered all the proper documentation, fax it to Blue Reef at 305-274-9593.
