Virtmaps ManagerThe Virtmaps Manager allows you to manage the mapping of virtual e-mail addresses to their real e-mail address equivalents. It is accessed by choosing the "Mail" tab in ACE and then selecting the "Virtmaps" tab which appears. The virtmaps manager, pictured in the screen shot at the right, displays a table showing all the virtmaps that are configured on your server. Virtmaps allow you to control the flow of mail sent to the various subhosts on a Virtual Server. For example, the e-mail address "webmaster@yourdomain.com" could be mapped to "technical_guru@yourdomain.com", and "someone@a-virutal-host.com" could be mapped to "someone@yourdomain.com". You can also set up a virtmap so that all mail to an entire domain will be sent to a specific person. For example, if you map "adomain.com" to "bob@yourdomain.com" then all the mail sent to "adomain.com" will be sent to "bob@yourdomain.com". It is important to understand that virtmaps are used by the mail system in the order they are encountered. Thus, if a virtmap for "adomain.com" precedes a virtmap for "bob@adomain.com", the latter virtmap will never be used. On the other hand, by adding a virtmap for an entire domain last, you can set it up so that mail goes to specific users and any remaining mail, likely to an unrecognized user, is forwarded to a single person. For a complete discussion of how virtmaps work, you should consult the manual for your Virtual Server.
Adding a virtmapTo add a virtmap, click the "Add" button. The dialog shown to the right will appear. Enter the virtual email address in the text field marked "Virtual E-mail Address". Enter the real (destination) address in the "Real E-mail Address:" text field. Once you are done entering information, click the "Add" button to add
the virtmap to your server. Click "Cancel" to back out without making
any changes to the Virtual Server.
Modifying a virtmap To modify a virtmap, either double-click on the virtmap that is to be
modified, or select the virtmap and click on the "Modify" button. This
brings up a dialog containing the old virtmap, shown at right. Edit the
virtmap, and click on the "Modify" button. The modification will be propagated
to the Virtual Server. If you change your mind, click "Cancel" to dismiss
the window without making any changes.
Removing a virtmapTo remove a virtmap, select the virtmap that is to be removed, and click on the "Remove" button. A dialog like the one shown below will appear and ask you if you want to delete the selected virtmap.
Click on the "Yes" button to cause ACE to remove the virtmap. Click on the "No" button to have ACE abandon this action, closing the window without making any changes to the Virtual Server.
