Using the Virtual Hosts Manager
The Virtual Hosts Manager, pictured at right, is used for managing the
virtual hosts configured on a Virtual Server. This manager allows you
to view, add, modify, and remove virtual hosts.
When the Virtual Hosts Manager first appears, it displays a table listing
every virtual host on your Virtual Server. Each row in the table represents
a different virtual host. Moving from left to right, the columns display
the virtual host's hostname, corresponding user, and home directory.
Adding a virtual host
To add a virtual host simply click on the button, "Add". This action
brings up the Virtual Host Wizard pictured to the right. You will be able
to add a list of domain names, a new virtual user, set the directory for
a virtual user (if a virtual user has been specified), the administrator
notification e-mail address, a catch-all virtmap, set (or move) the user's
home directory, set a web subdirectory, assign the transfer and error
log file names, and assign a CGI directory.
After this information is entered into the Virtual Host Wizard, the
virtual host is actually added to the Virtual Server by clicking on the
"Finish" button. Clicking on the "Cancel" button will dismiss the window
without propogating any changes to your Virtual Server.
Modifying a virtual host
To modify a virtual host either double-click on a user's row in the table
or select a virtual host and then click on the "Modify" button. This action
causes the Virtual Host Wizard, shown at right, to appear. This wizard
requires similar information as the Add User dialog as described above.
Changes are made by editing the information in the dialog and then clicking
on the "Next" and "Finish" buttons. As with adding a virtual host, changes
are ignored and the dialog is dismissed by clicking on the "Cancel" button.
Removing a virtual host
To remove a virtual host, select the virtual host and click on the "Remove"
button. The dialog shown below appears asking you if you want to remove
the selected virtual host and files associated with the virtual host.
Clicking on the "OK" button causes ACE to remove the virtual host. Clicking
on the "Cancel" button causes ACE to abandon this action, and leaves the
virtual host on your Virtual Server.
Removal of a virtual host is not a reversible operation. Be careful
because if you make a mistake, you will have to use the add virtual host
functionality to start over from scratch.
