ACE Sessions

An ACE session is a conversation between ACE and a particular virtual server. You start a session by providing ACE with the information required to locate and log in to the server. Inside an ACE session, you have all of ACE's virtual server administration services available to you. When you are done administering the virtual server you can either close the session and open a new session with a different virtual server or simply quit ACE.

ACE Startup Window When you first start ACE, it has an empty window like the one at the right. Before you can do anything with ACE, you must start an ACE session with a virtual server.

There are three basic options for controlling ACE sessions:

Each action may be invoked by either clicking the corresponding button at the bottom of the main ACE window or by selecting it from the "Session" menu.

Opening an ACE Session

ACE Login Window

There are two ways to open an ACE session from the Session Manager window.

  1. Select an existing session from the left side of the Session Manager window.
  2. Create a new session on the right side of the Session Manager window.

If you select an existing session from the left side of the Session Manager window, simply click the "Connect" button after highlighting the desired session name.

To create a new session, click in the "Session Name" text field and choose a name for the new session you are creating. Click in the "Host Name" text field and type the domain name or IP address of the Virtual Server you wish to connect to. Click in the "User Name" text field and enter the user name for the Virtual Server. (This is the user name you would use if you were using ssh or telnet to log into to the server. You can also use the name "root".) Click in the "Password" text field and type the password that corresponds with the user name you entered above. (For security purposes, each character will simply be echoed to the screen as '*'.)

Finally, click the "Connect" button. After a few moments, if your login information is correct, you will have an active ACE session. The window will change, presenting you with several administration options.

Closing an ACE Session

There are several ways to close the current session:

  1. Single click on the "CLOSE" button at the bottom of the window.
  2. Pull down the Session menu and choose "Close".

The ACE session will close and you will return to the blank ACE window. You will not be asked to confirm this operation.

Once the session has been closed, you may open a new session with another virtual server, if you choose.

Quitting ACE

There are also several ways to cause ACE to quit.

  1. Single click on the "QUIT" button at the bottom of the window.
  2. Pull down the Session menu and choose "Quit".

The ACE session will be closes, the ACE window will close, and ACE will quit. You will not be asked to confirm this operation.
