Bandwidth SurchargesUnlike many hosting companies, Blue Reef does not charge for bandwidth usage. Why be concerned about extra charges? Even a small web site usually has at least 10 pages of content. With graphics files ballooning a page size to 80 kilobytes or more per page, each visitor may download around 800 kilobytes to view your site. If your current hosting company limits you to 1 gig of transfer per month (which many companies do), your web site will only be able to service 1250 visits per month. This number includes reloading of pages, which can occur every time the visitor moves back and forth through pages of your site. If you have a medium sized site, your site can eat up even more bandwith, sometimes limiting you to only 125 visits per month, or about 4 visitors per day. After you have reached your monthly transfer point, many hosting companies will bill an extra .10 cents or more per additional megabyte of transfer. This may not seem like much, but if your hosting provider is located on an inferior network, packet (data) loss between the server and the browser can be frequent occurrence, causing users to have to reload pages often, thus increasing transfer fees. Blue Reef gives you unlimited FREE data transfer. The bottom line is that it is important to understand the true price of your hosting service. Blue Reef makes it easy, without having extra surcharge for bandwidth usage, so that you know you are getting a good deal at the beginning and at the end of the month. If your transfer rate becomes excessively large (e.g. a million hits* per day) we will suggest you upgrade your Virtual Server to one of our dedicated servers. * - A "hit" is any request for a file, either .html or a graphic, by a visitor. |
