VPS2 is here! Our newest version of the Blue Reef Virtual Server gives you more power and flexibility than ever before, without all the cost and hassles of a dedicated server. Our VPS2 extends the advantages of control, flexibility, and isolation by providing a product that is even more like a standard FreeBSD-based dedicated server--at a fraction of the cost. You can now use a FreeBSD manual or book from the bookstore to help you manage your VPS, since all the features and functions will be the same. With our VPS2, enjoy root access, multiple shell accounts, multiple domain hosting, enhanced security, and the ability to install your own applications. Root access, including the ability to bind to privileged ports and install third party applications Configure multiple shell accounts Host unlimited email accounts Securely support multiple websites Access to the FreeBSD Ports Collection of applications Install and configure the applications of your choice Per-user disk quotas (versus per-service quotas on the original VPS) All services run under the VPS environment so there is no need for the “virtual” and “non-virtual” modes required on the original VPS “Fair share” technology, which promotes consistent performance and security by protecting the resources allocated to each VPS Now with up to 5 Gigabytes of disk space! There are a few differences: SSL is automatically included in each VPS2 plan, which means the one-time $50 fee for SSL does not apply. The ability to use our shared certificate is also included. ONLY ONE SHARED CERTIFICATE CNAME (something.securesites.net) IS AVAILABLE PER VPS2 ACCOUNT. Miva Merchant is not currently available at this time; however, you may obtain a license from Miva Corp. and install the software yourself. Other 3rd Party Applications VPS2 allows customers to install and run most FreeBSD-compatible software exactly the same way it would be done on a dedicated FreeBSD server. VPS2 supports a few methods to make installations easier: FreeBSD Ports Collection, vinstalls, and a shared CGI Library. The widest variety of applications is available from the FreeBSD Ports Collection. vinstall is a custom tool that makes the installation of more complex programs easy to do. Lastly, the CGI Library includes several popular CGI scripts that can be copied from a shared library to the user’s cgi-bin. The support section of the website includes a list of the applications that are available for installation via the methods detailed above.
